Arnold Schwarzenegger to Star in ‘Toxic Avenger’ Remake
Arnold Schwarzenegger is in talks to take the lead in the reboot of 'The Toxic Avenger,' presumably because he has no other hobbies or personal interests.
This has been one of the strangest news days in a while. First came news that the Medieval Times restaurants are being adapted (...?) into a film, then there was that horrible trailer for the 'Sleepy Hollow' TV series that looks like it has to be some kind of joke on humanity.
And now this. Variety reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger is in talks to lead a remake of 'The Toxic Avenger.' He wouldn't be playing the film's signature mutant hero character, Toxie, but another lead character instead. Thank goodness for small favors? Director Steve Pink ('Hot Tub Time Machine') is set to helm the remake of the cult classic, released in 1984 by Troma, from director and studio head Lloyd Kaufman. The original film followed Melvin Ferd III, a scrawny little nerd who gets dumped into a vat of toxic waste and becomes the muscle-bound mutant superhero known as the Toxic Avenger.
We get it -- Schwarzenegger stepped away from the big screen while serving as governor of California, and now he wants to act as much as possible. But a 'Toxic Avenger' remake seems like an idea he should veto.
