UPDATE: Officials release name of teen who died an Interstate 90.

Captain Jim Hoekman of the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office says a 16-year-old male teenager was found dead north of Sioux Falls after they believe he was hit by a semi-truck.

The boy was identified as Jay Gary Lavender of rural Sioux Falls.

"When officers arrived on the scene, they did find a body that appeared to be struck by a semi-truck. From witnesses statements, there was a semi-truck parked along side the road approximately quarter mile west of the incident on I 90. It was described as a white semi-tractor with a large grill with an enclosed trailer. We have not located the vehicle yet. If anybody has any information about the vehicle they can contact Metro Communications at 605 367 7000."

Hoekman says a child in need of supervision report had been issued in the area, but he is unsure if that is connected with the death.
