"John and I did not have a creative relationship for decades," he explains.

He can't go for that anymore.

He remains proud of his work with Daryl Hall but can't forget feeling the pressure of business demands that came with success.

"I'm really making an effort to kind of leave my past in the past and move forward," he says following his elimination on the show.

Recently filed lawsuit claiming a breach of contract pits long-time partners against one another.

Hall says his bandmate tried to "ambush" him with a catalog sale in an attempt to "cause me the maximum amount of harm."

Hall obtained a temporary restraining order against Oates earlier this month.

He's said "it's very annoying to be a duo."

The gold-selling LP showed where the duo was headed – but they weren't quite there yet.
