On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, South Dakota health officials confirmed 103 new cases of COVID-19 in the state for a total of 1858 confirmed cases.

Officials also report one new COVID-19 related death, a man in his 80s from Minnehaha County.  Dakota News Now reports this is the second consecutive day with a new death.  South Dakota now has nine deaths.

New recoveries outpaced new active cases.  113 recoveries were reported on Wednesday for a total number of 937 recoveries.  The total active cases stand at 912.

Minnehaha County adds 86 cases for a total of 1,555.  Lincoln County increases by five to 104.

Dakota News Now says twenty-two of the new cases is linked to the Smithfield Foods breakout. 783 of the state's cases involve Smithfield employees. 63 additional cases involved people closely connected to Smithfield, bringing that total to 206.

Officials confirmed two positive cases at The Arch halfway house in Sioux Falls, a facility that has been locked down.
