Slash Says STP Has Fired Weiland
Slash has said in an interview with Minneapolis radio station 93X that former Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland is interested in getting back together with that band because he has been fired from his other group, Stone Temple Pilots. Weiland recently said that he thought it was "the perfect time for Velvet Revolver to get back together," prompting Slash to respond, "That's because he got fired from STP, I think, all things considered, because these things always catch me by surprise, too, because I only find out about it through the media. I'm on the road in another country and I start hearing all this stuff, so I inquire within, and that's what I was told."
Slash did not cite specific sources for his information.
Weiland recently told Rolling Stone about a Velvet Revolver reunion, "I am completely open to it, and I know there are other guys in the band that are completely open to it."
Velvet Revolver has been without a singer and on more or less permanent hiatus since Weiland was dismissed from the band in April 2008. He rejoined Stone Temple Pilots at that time and has toured constantly and cut one album with them.
On the status of STP, Weiland told Rolling Stone, "I think we kind of overplayed ourselves by playing the same set over and over. I think the band needs to take some time off and be creative again."
Velvet Revolver did reunite with Weiland for a four-song set last January at a Los Angeles tribute concert for late songwriter John O'Brien, but Slash later said in a radio interview that he had "no intention" of going back to that lineup.
