The tradition of the annual Legislative Shootout continued Wednesday (January 25). South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley hosted the event where the winner selected a charity of their choice for a donation.

Representative Herman Otten of Lennox took top honors in the event and a donation was made to the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program.  The CASA program links adult advocates with abused children to give them a voice as they proceed through any courtroom procedures.

Attorney General Jackley commented on the tradition:

South Dakota enjoys, respects, and protects the fundamental right of the state and our law abiding citizens to bear arms. The Attorney General’s Legislative Shootout is intended to support our constitutional rights, test legislator’s marksmanship and raise money for important causes.

Legislators donate to charity and no state funds were used to implement the event or prizes.
