The 23rd annual marijuana festival known as “Hempfest” kicks off in Seattle today, but this year’s party will be a bit different.

Because the state legalized weed, police who are patrolling the action won’t be handing out tickets and citations to participants. Instead, they’ll be handing out bags of Doritos. Seriously. The munchies come in wrappers that explain the new laws about marijuana.

The cops want marijuana enthusiasts to know that just because the stuff is legal doesn’t mean it’s a free-for-all out there. For example, adults can carry up to an ounce of weed - but can’t sell it or give it away. And, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal, along with smoking it in public -- outside of festivals.

The labels on the Doritos bags will also direct people to the Seattle Police Department’s “Marijwhatnow?” website, which is an FAQ about the new state laws.
