Watch Pat Benatar’s New ‘Dancing Through the Wreckage’ Video
Pat Benatar has released a video for the new song “Dancing Through the Wreckage.”
The track comes from the soundtrack of the documentary Served Like a Girl, which follows the careers of female military veterans and explores the issue of women living homeless in the U.S.
The song was written by Benatar, her husband and guitarist Neil Giraldo and Linda Perry. “‘Dancing Through the Wreckage’ is a powerful and inspirational song written for the veterans in Served Like a Girl,” Benatar said in a statement. “The film’s ability to showcase the hope and courage from these women sparked this song, and their message is one that must not go unheard.”

The movie premiered in New York and Los Angeles in August, and will be screened elsewhere in the coming months. The soundtrack also features music by Gwen Stefani, Pink, Natasha Bedingfield and Christina Aguilera.
Benatar, Giraldo and Perry previously worked together on the song "Shine," which was released in January and acted as a launch pad for their Shine Together Movement that inspires "women, through song, to support each other and affect positive change in our government and the world.” The track was sold as a download for $.69 instead of the usual $.99 or $1.29 in order to highlight the gender wage gap.
“My whole mantra is that if you raise up one group, everyone benefits,” Benatar said at the time. “So we’re trying to raise up all groups. This is an inclusive movement. It’s great for all of us to be out there, raising our voices and speaking up, but we need real change, and real people in place to make sure that change happens.”
