Where Did Candy Corn Even Come From?
I'm not a fan of candy corn, I think it's nasty. But where did these little candies begin?
Candy corn was supposedly invented in the 1880s by a guy named George Renninger who worked for Wunderle Candy Company, according to the website Always a Treat.
At about the turn of the century, Goelitz Candy Company, which is now Jelly Belly Candy Company, started producing candy corn and the rest is history. Now people are putting these candies inside of brats.
Candy Corn Brats for Sale in Wisconsin
I first heard about these candy corn brats in 2021 from a Madison, Wisconsin market called Jenifer Street Market. I believe 2021 was their first year making these.
They described the brats as being "Slightly sweet & not scary at all!"
Unfortunately, I haven't seen Jenifer Street Market announce that their candy corn brats are available this year so I'm not sure if they have them.
However, other meat markets seemed to take notice of the brats a few years ago because now there's a spot in Minnesota that is making these candy corn brats.
Anoka Meat and Sausage's Candy Corn Brats
In the Halloween Capital of the World, Anoka, MN, you can stop by Anoka Meat and Sausage and pick up some candy corn brats.
I believe they sold them for the first time last year. It went nuts because of the hot debate of whether or not candy corn brats would be good. I firmly stand on the opinion that they would not be good but to each their own.
If it's something you're interested in trying, the weather has been pretty perfect for grilling, so don't miss your opportunity!
