After being released by the New York Giants last week, reports indicate the quarterback Daniel Jones will sign with the Minnesota Vikings.

The former first round pick started the first ten games of the season for New York (2-9) before being benched and ultimately cut by the team. Jones cleared waivers yesterday opening the door for the Vikings to sign Jones initially to the practice squad.

Jones was selected by the Giants with the sixth overall pick in the 2019 draft. Jones has started 69 of 70 regular-season games he's played, with the Giants going 24-44-1 under three different head coaches since Jones' rookie season.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell says,

We're expecting, anticipating Daniel to arrive Friday morning, and very much looking forward to that good addition to our quarterbacks room.

Sam Darnold has led Minnesota to a 9-2 record, following rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy's season-ending knee injury suffered in preseason, requiring surgery.

The expectation is that Jones will compete with Nick Mullens for the backup to Darnold.

The Minnesota Vikings return home Sunday after three consecutive road wins, to host the Arizona Cardinals at U.S. Bank Stadium. The kickoff is set for noon on FOX.

The Thanksgiving Day NFL schedule has all three of the Vikings' NFC North rivals in action.
