The strawberry is down! The strawberry is down! Why on earth would anyone remove the 'World's Largest Strawberry' in Strawberry Point, Iowa?

OK, it turns out that the removal of the record-setting piece of fruit is only temporary. But it has to be jarring for members of the community who have seen the giant strawberry for decades! According to a recent Facebook post, the World's Largest Strawberry, which is displayed with pride in Strawberry Point, was taken down and will undergo a restoration. Any berry that is exposed to Iowa weather 24 hours a day, seven days a week could use some brightening up!

The fifteen-foot tall and 12-foot wide strawberry is made out of fiberglass and first appeared near city hall in the late 1960s. It was designed by a local ad agency to help bring attention to the small Iowa town of Strawberry Point. Amazingly, some 60 years later the ripe strawberry still resides and continues to be a world record holder.

According to comments on the social media post, the huge strawberry will be repainted by a company that specializes in painting water towers. But be careful! No John Deere Green for this iconic piece of fruit! According to the post, the World's Largest Strawberry will return to its rightful perch by early summer!
