A New Docuseries About One of Iowa’s Biggest Cold Cases is Coming Soon
If you've lived in Iowa for any period of time in the past 30 years, then you've probably heard the name Jodi Huisentruit. The Iowa news anchor went missing on her way to work back in 1995, and to this day, the case remains unsolved. But, Jodi's case is not forgotten. Her family, friends, and community still have hope that, one day, they will finally get answers.
The Disappearance
In the early hours of June 27th, 1995, 27-year-old Jodi Huisentruit left her apartment to head to work as a morning news anchor at KIMT in Mason City, Iowa. Unfortunately, Jodi never made it in. According to Wikipedia:
"At about 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 1995, KIMT producer Amy Kuns noticed that Huisentruit had failed to report to work as scheduled and called her apartment. When Huisentruit answered the telephone, she explained that she had overslept and that she was preparing to leave for the station. However, by 6:00 a.m., Huisentruit had still not arrived, so Kuns filled in for her on the morning show Daybreak. At about 7:00 a.m., KIMT staff called the Mason City police."
When police arrived at the scene, they found Jodi's car in the parking lot, as well as some items of hers that appeared to be left behind in a struggle. After years of investigations and more than 1,000 interviews, Jodi was declared legally dead in May of 2001, although her body has never been located.
The New Docuseries
In honor of the 30th anniversary of Jodi's disappearance last month, ABC News Studios is getting ready to release a new three-episode docuseries called Her Last Broadcast: The Abduction of Jodi Huisentruit. According to an article from People, the series features "more than 20 new interviews with family members, detectives, witnesses, and friends," as well as "never-before-seen material and new, groundbreaking information" regarding her case.
