Meet South Dakota’s State Insect. What Is Minnesota & Iowa’s?

With South Dakota having a case of the Nice, weather-wise, it prompts us to begin spending much more time outdoors. Enjoying the sunshine, new flowers, the smell of cut green grass, and insects.

The creepy crawlies, wisping, stinging, and unwanted buzzing have begun. But, what are those annoying six-legged little monsters that woke up and will not go away until the fall frost?

South Dakota has, in my opinion, one of the most essential insects in the entire country. It flys. It buzzes, It helps all kinds of plants, vegetables, and fruits. Plus, it's a damn hard worker. Never calls in sick. Works seven days a week, even on holidays.

The honey bee is South Dakota's official insect.

Did you know that South Dakota is the second leading honey producer in the country? Producing over 12M pounds. North Dakota bees are the champs with more than double that amount.

The honey bee is one of the most important aspects of the country's agriculture sector.

If we were to ask someone in Minnesota what their state insect is, it may boggle their mind because along with Iowa these states do not have an official state insect. Awe!

Not to be shaming our neighbors, but I am a bit jealous of Minnesota with the whole State of Hockey thing.
