One Man Dead After Shooting in Sioux Falls Dunham Park Sunday

A weekend of gunfire in Sioux Falls has left one person dead, and three others injured during a shooting that took place in Dunham Park of the city's westside.

Dakota News Now is reporting that the incident occurred around 4:20 PM on Sunday (August 25) when police started getting calls of gunshots being reported in the Dunham Park area in the 1300 block of South Marion Road.

The police report states the incident occurred in the farthest west end of a parking lot in the park. Police say a rather large gathering occurred in the parking lot that afternoon, and sometime during the meeting, a disturbance broke out, which resulted in gunfire.

According to Dakota News Now, once police arrived, they found Joshau Antrell Allen Jr., 29, of Sioux Falls dead at the scene as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. Three other individuals were transported to Avera McKennan Hospital by personal acquaintances with gunshot wounds.

The shooting on Sunday prompted Avera McKennan Hospital to go into lockdown mode around 5:10 PM.

Dakota News Now reports the three shooting victims are still hospitalized at this time with a variety of gunshot-related injuries. That is delaying the police investigation at the moment.

Sioux Falls Public Information Officer Sam Clemens told Dakota News Now, ”The highest priority is that they get treatment and at some point we’re hoping that we’ll be able to talk to them and get information.”

Multiple shell casings were found at the scene, which indicates different calibers of firearms were used during the shooting.

At this time police believe the people involved knew each other, but there is no evidence yet on whether the incident was drug or gang-related.

Sunday's shooting marks the sixth homicide Sioux Falls has experienced so far this year.
