Mother Nature wasn't feeling overly patriotic this year when she gypped the Sioux Empire out of several of its fireworks displays this past Fourth of July due to lightning and inclement weather.

The big boom typically put on by the Sioux Falls Jaycees at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds had to be postponed until next year. The Jaycess have said they plan to light the fuse on an even bigger bang that promises to be no dud as our nation celebrates its 250th birthday on Independence Day 2026.

But, if you're looking for a fireworks fix right now, word just took off like a rogue Roman candle last week that the gang up at Royal River Casino in Flandreau plans to light up the summer sky with its rescheduled 2025 fireworks extravaganza on the evening of Saturday, August 30th.

It sounds like they'll have you covered from daylight to nightfall in and outside the casino.

Here's the game plan:

  • Royal River's All-You-Can-Eat Prime Rib Buffet will be $21.99 that day from 4:30 - 9:30 PM in the River's Bend Restaurant.
  • Then you can try your luck on their 400+ slot machines, blackjack, poker, and roulette tables all day long.

After all, nothing pairs better with pyrotechnics than pretending to know how to play craps, right?
