Enjoy Shopping And Socializing During 'Hunting Wives Weekend'

Pheasant hunting season kicks off this weekend in South Dakota, and you know what that means, ladies: you’ll suddenly be seeing a lot more of your significant other’s hunting gear than his actual face over the next several weekends.

As he slips into his blaze orange vest and heads out with his trusty 12-gauge in search of the elusive South Dakota ring-neck pheasant, you can start planning a little hunting excursion of your own. You know, the kind that involves lattes, laughter, and maybe a few fabulous finds downtown.

That’s right, it’s the first-ever “Hunting Wives Weekend” in downtown Sioux Falls!

This brand-new event runs Friday, October 17, through Sunday, October 19, and it’s designed for the women who’d rather bag a new pair of boots than South Dakota's state bird.

So, What’s in Your Crosshairs?

A whole weekend of fun, friendship, and maybe a tiny bit of shopping-induced cardio. Don’t worry, your credit card won't break a sweat!

Here’s how your hunt goes down:

Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, prepare yourself for the “Eastbank Edition” Scavenger Hunt. Start your adventure on the Eastbank! Participants can pick up a playing card at participating businesses. Complete five activities, and you’ll be entered to win a $500 prize. The good news is that you won't need to field dress that hunting trophy.

Saturday from 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, get ready to be Hot, Cold, and Stylish. You will more than likely need a little time to relax after your big scavenger hunt on Friday. Do that by enjoying hot tub and cold plunge sessions outside The Great Outdoor Store, courtesy of Dakota Sauna.

Then, starting at 3:00 PM, head to MK Threads for a fashion show that’ll make you forget all about camo and cargo pants.

The Hunting Wives Weekend wraps up Sunday, beginning at 7:00 AM, with The Blaze Orange/Camo Run. Lace up those sneakers and join the group run starting at 605 Running Company. Don't worry, no fields to run, just pavement. Once you’ve crossed the finish line, celebrate with a well-earned coffee at The Breaks, because caffeine makes great recovery fuel!

So, ladies, whether you’re shopping, soaking, or sipping, this is your weekend to bag some great buys, while the guys are busy bagging birds!
