You’ll definitely want to save the date for this one. Banana Ball is peeling into the Birdcage in Sioux Falls next August.

If you haven’t heard of Banana Ball yet, allow me to introduce you to a baseball game with a sense of humor and a caffeine problem.

Created by the Savannah Bananas, Banana Ball takes everything you love (or maybe tolerate) about baseball and cranks up the energy. The result? A faster, funnier, fan-first version of the game that keeps everyone on their toes, players and spectators alike.

What makes the game so Bananas?

For starters, the game is on a timer, two hours max. No more extra innings that stretch into next Tuesday. Each inning counts as one point (except the last), and the goal is simple: win more innings than the other team.

And don’t even think about bunting. Seriously, it’s banned. Try it, and you’re ejected faster than you can say "Chiquita Banana."

Fans get in on the action, too. Catch a foul ball from the stands? It counts as an out!

Walks are gone too. Instead, if a pitcher throws four balls, the batter takes off sprinting to first base, and can keep going until every fielder touches the ball. It’s baseball meets a track meet.

Other tweaks include no mound visits (finally), and each team gets one Golden Batter, meaning they can send up any hitter at any time. Oh, and if the game ends in a tie, things get wild with a Showdown Tiebreaker.

Dakota News Now reports that Banana Ball will take over the Sioux Falls Birdcage from August 27–29, when the Firefighters face off against the Indianapolis Clowns. Expect trick plays, dancing, singing, and plenty of chaos.
