It was another wild weekend of snow in the Sioux Empire. Saturday, a winter storm that we'd been talking about all week dumped snow on Sioux Falls all afternoon, leaving the city buried.

Looking at the National Weather Service data, we see that most areas received at least 6 inches of snow this past weekend, with one spot getting nearly 11 inches!

How Much Snow Does Sioux Falls Get Each Year?

Sioux Falls averages around 44 inches of snow a year. That is quite a bit of the fluffy stuff. But, spread out over a few months, it's more annoying than terrible.

But there have been some crazy extremes.

Sioux Falls' snowiest winter saw 94.7 inches of snow blanket the town. That was the winter of 1968-69. Earlier in the 1960s, we had the second snowiest winter with just under 80 inches of snow.
