Local Sioux Falls Animal Shelter Hits Major Adoption Milestone

Many pets across shelters in the Sioux Falls area wait and hope for a new home. They want someone to finally notice them.

Hundreds of South Dakota pets have second chances thanks to the hard work of the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. Their dedication to our four-legged friends has lead them to their biggest adoption of the year.

A young pup named Benji is officially the 1,000th animal adopted from the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society in 2026. Happy days for everyone!

Staff at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society celebrated the milestone in a Facebook post that honors Benji and his new family.

It's a number that isn't just because of the countless hours staff spend at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. It's part of the community because giving animals a loving home and sharing their stories is worth fighting for.

Today, we celebrated something incredible…

Our 1,000th adoption of the year.

And while that number is something to be proud of, it doesn’t belong to us.

It belongs to you.

We adopted Winston (formerly Fredrick) in February. Win has turned into the sweetest, most snuggly, cuddly and gentle giant. He loves his people and is very eager to learn new things. We couldn't be happier!

Sophie has been thriving since February and I couldn't be happier with her training progress. Thank you for creating such a healthy space for these animals to find their forever homes.
