Major South Dakota, Iowa & Minnesota Gas Station To Close Soon
A well-known South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota gas station made a major announcement about closing over 1,000 locations nationwide.
This major gas station is the 6th biggest station in the state of Minnesota alone.
A new article from the Intersolar reveals Shell gas stations are set to close at least 1,000 retail stations between 2024 and 2025.
Why does Shell want to close its retail gas stations?
Shell officials say they want to shift "focus and utilization of its resources to expand services for EVs (electric vehicles)."
“We are upgrading our retail network, with expanded electric vehicle charging and convenience offers, in response to changing customer needs. We believe growth in oil demand is set to slow in the second half of this decade and could start falling in the 2030s because of increasing vehicle efficiency and growth in electric vehicles.”
Shell says they plan to install around 70,000 public charging stations by 2025. The goal is to have about 200,000 stations by 2030.
How many Shell gas stations are located in South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota?
There are 17 Shell retail gas stations in South Dakota. Iowa has 43 Shell retail gas stations and Minnesota is home to over 70 Shell locations.

Shell has yet to announce which South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota gas stations will close. It's more likely Shell EV charging stations would happen in larger, urban areas first. I wouldn't be surprised to see Minnesota Shell stations on the list.
