When I first moved to Sioux Falls, I asked people where I should go if I wanted to eat pizza.  The answers were unanimous.  MacKenzie River was the winner.  Being from the Chicagoland area, I was (and still am) nervous to try pizza outside of the city.  But I took everyone's advice and went there for dinner one night with my friend Miranda.

When you walk into MacKenzie River, it feels like you're actually out on the river with your boat.  You think you're in the water discovering new adventures.  In my case, it was discovering new food and pizza.

Even though the restaurant is technically a franchise, it's a place that ties together with Downtown Sioux Falls.  The calm atmosphere invites people in and it's not every day you see trees in a restaurant.  It's unique, which is one word that I would use to describe Sioux Falls.

The food is even better.  I'll admit...I did not order the pizza.  I chickened out.  However, I did order the "California Chicken Flatbread" and that's the closest thing to eating pizza.  If that was a pizza, I would eat it.  It's incredible.  The avocados on top make the dish.  It's pretty much my "go-to" meal when I don't feel like eating a salad.

Whenever my family or friends come for a visit, MacKenzie River is the first place I will take them.  Not only is the food great, but it's a cool place to hang out.  My dad still talks about this establishment and always asks to visit there when he enters the Sioux Empire.

So if you're traveling to Sioux Falls to grab a drink or eat a good meal, try MacKenzie River.  It will draw you to the downtown area and it gives you a taste of what the city has to offer.  For anyone wondering, trying the pizza is next on my list!
