Gov’t Mule Taps Winwood, Costello for New Album
Out now is Gov't Mule's 10th studio set, called Shout! "The Mule," which is led by Allman Brothers Band and Dead guitarist Warren Haynes, welcomed a series of guests for the album, including Elvis Costello, Steve Winwood, Dr. John, Ben Harper, Glenn Hughes, Dave Mathews, and Myles Kennedy, among others. Gov't Mule kicks off its latest series of dates on October 24th in Seattle and wraps things up for the year over two nights in the Philly area on December 27th and 28th in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.
Warren Haynes says the key to a happy life as a musician is to keep playing -- and most importantly -- keep learning: "All of my life I've kinda been one of those people they've wanted to do a lot of different stuff. And I feel fortunate that I've been able to carve out some sort of path doing that. I kinda learned, or at least assumed, a long time ago, that if you wanted to do something career-wise as a musician, you have to remain a student at all times."
Haynes says he's especially proud of his recent work fronting the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration concerts, which saw him performing with both the Colorado Symphony and the San Francisco Orchestra: "This thing with doing the Garcia thing -- that was an amazing opportunity for me. And I was so honored that they called and asked me to do it. And I'm sure that it's confusing to some people; 'Oh, isn't that the guy in the Allman Brothers (Band)?' Or 'Isn't that the guy in Gov't Mule, what's he doin', doin' that?' What a beautiful experience."
