Someone you know getting married? Chances are it won't be in a church. A recent survey found a decreasing number of couples saying their "I dos" in a church.

In fact, that was the case this past weekend when my wife and I attended a wedding just outside of Ames, Iowa. The ceremony and reception were held at a local winery.

According to The Knot 2016 Real Wedding Study, only 26% of weddings held last year in this country were actually held in a church-type setting. In 2009 it was 41%.

The Knot surveyed nearly 13,000 brides and grooms and found most were getting married in places such as a farm, an historic building, an outdoor area or a winery.

Those who responded said it was more about the "content" of the ceremony and being surrounded by loved ones rather than the "setting" itself.

And if, by chance, you see a wedding happening in your near future, hope you've been saving your pennies. The average wedding cost is now just over $35-thousand.
