Cattle Roundup: 60 Cows Get Loose in Yankton

Imagine waking up in the morning, looking out your window, and finding a large cow resting in your yard.

That was the case for one Yankton, South Dakota resident on Thursday, (October 12).

KSFY TV is reporting that roughly 60 cows got loose from the Cimpl Packing Company of Yankton early Thursday morning. The wandering herd made life interesting, to say the least for residents living on Yankton's Eastside.

Talk about a cattle crossing, drivers in the area got to play a game of dodge cow throughout the day.

According to KSFY TV, a cow even decided to take a rest in the backyard of one resident's home. I am guessing they probably needed an industrial strength pooper scooper to clean up after that surprise guest. Hello!

The loose herd prompted the Yankton School District to send a text message to parents notifying them to use caution when driving their kids to school.

The Yankton Daily Press and Dakotan reports, 59 of the 60 cows were rounded up by 1 PM Thursday. Still no word if they've located the last remaining cow. But it kinda gives a whole new meaning to the term, where's the beef?

Authorities say no injuries, accidents, or property damage was reported as a result of the incident.
