Todd Epp (7:50 PM) - Very happy vibe at The District with the Republicans. They put up the TV coverage of Sen. McConnell's victory in Kentucky and lots of cheering. The hall is filling up. Gov. Daugaard is working the floor. We were told the major candidates wouldn't come in until they were announced as winners.

Dan Peters (6:53 PM) - The Kenny Anderson Community Center had a fire alarm this morning that temporarily closed the polling place. As a result, voting is going to be allowed until 7:22 PM to reach the mandated 12 hour voting window.

Beth Warden (6:50 PM) - Meet Hunter. He voted for the first time today.

Beth Warden (6:34 PM) - Election coverage underway with live broadcasts from the democratic headquarters at the Icon Events Center in downtown Sioux Falls.

Beth Warden (6:08 PM) - Tonight we'll be talking to Hunter, an 18-year-old who just voted for the first time.

Dan Peters (5:46 PM) - During our canvassing of county auditors in the area, one of the interesting little hiccups came from Minnehaha County Auditor Bob Litz. Some polling places have been running short on forms to update registrations.  Basically, that means people went to the correct polling place and voted. However they moved to a different precinct since they last voted and did not change their registration in the interim.

FiveThirtyEight (5:32 PM) -

Tony Wright (4:50 PM) - How split is the country in the idea of gay marriage? CNN is running a "National U.S. House Exit Poll" and asked should same-sex marriages be legal in your state? The results: Yes - 49%, No - 48%. Can't get much closer to that. The one thing they country does agree on: Congress sucks - 79% disapprove of the job Congress is doing today.

Todd Epp (4:20 PM) - One of the things Election Day usually marks is the first real hints of winter. It is not unusual for there to be light snow, sub-freezing temperatures--or worse. However, this year, all cross South Dakota, the weather was beautiful--mostly sunny, breezy, with daytime highs ranging from 49 in Aberdeen to the north, 60 in Pierre and Rapid City to the center and west, respectively, and 55 degrees in Sioux Falls in the southeast. South Dakota voters can't use bad weather as an excuse not to vote as they sometime legitimately can.

CNN (3:44 PM) - Even before the polls close in the midterm election, President Barack Obama is sounding gloomy about the Democrats' chances of hanging onto the Senate. "This is probably the worst possible group of states for Democrats since Dwight Eisenhower," Obama told WNPR radio in Connecticut Tuesday afternoon while polls were still open. "There are a lot of states that are being contested where they just tend to tilt Republican," said Obama, seemingly reconciling himself to a grim night for Democrats that could turn his final two years in the White House into a painful experience.

Beth Warden (3:12 PM) - Here at KSOO, we’re covering every angle of the election. Tonight I’ll be at the ICON event Hall at 402 N. Main, reporting from the Democratic Party’s "We Are South Dakota" Election Night Party.  Join me and the rest of KSOO election team for continuous coverage, compelling interviews and insight on our elected officials.

Dan Peters (2:47 PM) - It has already been a little frantic on this Election Day.  Early in the process we learned that the results will be delayed because of hiccups in western South Dakota.  Apparently, there were two polling places in Shannon County that got their ballots about 30 to 40 minutes late.  Essentially that means the funnel of information will be stopped up for a bit this evening.  Once the spigot opens, a lot will be happening between 9 and 9:30pm.  Trying to keep on top of the information will be challenging and exhilarating.

Todd Epp (2:30 PM) - I'm currently at home following election twitters and emails and posting photos and tidbits to ksoo.com. I'll be at the Republican election watch party tonight around 6:00 PM with Jeff Harkness. In talking to my Republican contacts, they are expecting a complete sweep of all statewide offices, from U.S. Senate through the Constitutional offices to Public Utilities Commissioner. When all the results are all in, they'll have a band and dance at The District.
