Traffic was tied up on West 12th Street in Sioux Falls Friday (February 3) prior to the morning rush because of a multi-vehicle crash south of the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds.

According to a press release from Sgt. Lon Hatcher of Sioux Falls Police, witnesses say one car was swerving back and forth while going westbound on 12th Street just after 7:00 AM. One car that was also traveling westbound was struck in the 3000 block of W. 12th Street.

The offending driver then took a hard left turn into eastbound traffic at the Lyons Avenue intersection striking three more cars in the process.

Fortunately only minor injuries resulted from the crash. The driver that caused the crash was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Further investigation revealed that a diabetic reaction was the reason for the erratic behavior. The only citation that was issued for the pileup was to the wayward driver for not having a license.

Multiple lanes of traffic were affected by the accident on 12th Street. Additionally the South Dakota Highway patrol was summoned to control I-29 northbound traffic at the at the 12th Street exit.
