So I get into work and notice that my 'Big Book of Stuff' has Tuesday February 24 listed as National 'Single Tasking Day.'  My first response was, "Yea right, maybe in your world."  But then I got thinking more about it, and it's beginning to make sense - I think I get it.

In this day in age, with everyone being so dependent (or addicted) to social media, this is the one day a year where we're all encouraged to SLOW DOWN; disconnect for a bit.  So I've decided to take the challenge, and I hope you will too.

My plan is to slow down and 'take in everything' as they say.  I'm gonna go for a walk in the neighborhood, without my headphones stuck in my ears, and take in nature's sights and sounds.  Maybe I'll even strike up a conversation with one of the new neighbors who moved in just before Christmas.

During dinner tonight, I'm going to shut off the TV and focus on, not only what's on my plate and going into my mouth, but actually carry on a meaningful conversation with my wife, Suzette.  We've gotten into a really bad habit lately of watching the news while we eat and saying very few words to one another.

And then after dinner, rather than turn on the television, I think I'm going to sit down and read a book.  I have several books I've been wanting to get to, but have just never made the time.  So I think tonight's the night.

Perhaps I'll even take some time to listen to the new music I've downloaded; songs I liked when I heard them on the radio and have downloaded, but not taken the time to listen to (my New Year's resolution was to listen to more music after all).

I think you can see where I'm headed with this.  Take the time today to focus on one thing at a time - and ONE THING ONLY.  When you pick up the kids from school, actually listen to what they have to say.  When you ask your spouse how work was, really listen to their answer.

My hope is, by taking the challenge to single task today, slowing down will become more of a habit rather than just something I randomly do only when it's convenient.  I would encourage you to do the same - SLOW DOWN!  We have to start somewhere, and it just as well be today!
