If you're thinking that a lot of young people these days are lazy, unsympathetic, narcissists, you're not alone. But the good news is, there are and will always be incredible examples of the best of what youth has to offer. Danny Mohama and his friend Aaron Tarnasky, both of Sioux Falls, are the perfect illustration of this.

These two young men are members of a 28-person bicycle team crossing the country to raise funds and awareness for people dealing with cancer. They began their trek near Baltimore, Maryland in June and are now within days of the end of their journey in San Diego, California.

The 4K for Cancer is a program of the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, which seeks to help young adults dealing with cancer, a group which receives less attention in the cancer world. Along the way they will be doing community service projects, such as delivering chemo care packages and visiting hope lodges to help young adult cancer patients and let them know they are cared for and supported.

Along with the goal of raising awareness and funds for this outstanding organization, these young people have had life-changing experiences, met unparalleled kindness from sponsors and everyday people in communities across the nation, who fed, housed and encouraged them along the way.

And speaking of raising funds, Danny's mom Rima, tells us that the 4K for Cancer has raised $800,000 dollars this year! The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults offers financial support in the form of scholarships to young people diagnosed with or affected by a cancer diagnosis of someone they love. They also offer a wide range of support programs and act as a clearinghouse of information, education and resources.

So this Saturday, August 9th when Danny and Aaron are dipping their front bike tires into the Pacific ocean at San Diego, I hope they know that back here in Sioux Falls, there are a whole lot of people beaming with pride and applauding their adventurous accomplishment!
