Young Gun Goes Outlaw [VIDEO]

Alex Schriever
Doug Johnson

Alex Schriever of Sioux Falls, SD at 19 years old is only in his 4th year driving race cars. But his connection to the sport reaches over many decades.

His stepfather, Jeff Davis, has built, driven, owned and promoted sprint cars for a lifetime. Alex’s late grandfather, Bob Schriever, spent his life in racing and was inducted into the Huset’s Speedway Hall of Fame in 2007.

It goes without saying that Alex was born to race. And that he is. He’s excited with his decision to move up to the 410 outlaw sprint class at the start of this season. The family has a nice car with the #0 Sioux Falls Truck and Trailer/ Jaton Construction/ Bruggeman Signs/ Independent C4C sprinter pictured at the top of this story.

Alex got his start in sprint car driving with an entire different set up. He spent 3 years getting an education the old school way learning how to master a non-wing car. Here’s a picture of that car with Alex in competition:

Doug Johnson,

Now let’s get to the heart of this feature. And that’s an interview I did with Alex while I had my video recorder in hand.

A great interview with this super nice guy has Alex talking about how different this car is over the previous one. He explains: ‘The down force from having a wing on changes everything.’ He also points out: ‘The power of the 410 motor is unbelievable compared to anything else.’ This driver now at the half way point of his first season in this class says: ‘The drivers he now races against are highly talented and it’s great to drive with them.’

We also get a little close up tour of an outlaw sprint car. Enjoy this interview I had the pleasure of doing with Alex.

I want to thank Alex for the interview and also his stepfather Jeff for being my friend for many years. I encourage you to keep your eye on this driver and meet him in person when you get the chance. Alex works in the office at Sioux Falls Truck and Trailer.

If you have time, check some more of my racing stories.

Also a big special thank you to my good friend, master racing photographer, Doug Johnson.
