A bunch of us from the radio station pooled our money and bought 50 Powerball tickets for Saturday night's drawing.  Out of 300 numbers, we had 16 correct. None of them were on the same ticket.

Unfortunately, you don't win anything for just one number. My friend won $100.  She had three numbers correct and the Powerball. You'd think that would be worth more than $100.

I wanted to know how many numbers you needed to have in order to win some money, so I went to the Powerball website and checked it out.

We all know that if you match all 5 white balls and the Powerball, you win the jackpot.

If you match all 5 white balls and NO Powerball, you win $1 million.

If you match 4 white balls and the Powerball, you win $50,000.

The prize winnings drop considerably after this. If you match 4 white balls and NO Powerball, you'll only win $100.  The prize is the same for matching 3 white balls and the Powerball.

If you match three white balls, you'll win $7. You'll also pick up $7 if you match 2 white balls and the Powerball.

If you match the Powerball or one white ball and the Powerball, you'll collect $4.

You can add the Power Play feature for an extra $1 per ticket for a chance to win more money.  See what you could win with the Power Play option here.

The most money anyone in South Dakota won was $300. Nineteen people chose the Power Play option which added three times the amount to their $100 prize. You can see how many winners South Dakota had here.

As of Sunday, January 10, 2016, the Powerball jackpot is up to $1.3 BILLION for Wednesday's, January 13, 2016, drawing and that could go higher before the drawing.
