South Dakota state parks and recreation areas are always busy during the 4th of July holiday.  And as a reminder from the Game, Fish and Parks Department, campers and visitors who will be celebrating their Independence Day holiday at one of South Dakota's great state parks, should leave the fireworks at home!

State parks director Doug Hofer, reminds people that state parks are usually busy with people enjoying what state parks have to offer.  But safety is always a concern.

Combining fireworks and large numbers of people creates a dangerous situation.  We appreciate your help to keep the parks safe and fun this Fourth of July.

If safety isn't enough of a reason to keep the fireworks at home, remember the lighting and use of fireworks is prohibited on land that is either owned or leased by the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks.  This includes state parks, recreation areas, lakeside use areas, game production areas and nature areas.  Fireworks are also illegal in the Black Hills Forest Fire Protection District, national forests and national parks in South Dakota.

South Dakota State Parks does provide more information to their visitors on their website.
