Winterfest of Wheels Raises $30,000 for Cure Kids Cancer
The 6th annual Winterfest of Wheels was held February 7-9 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center and those of us who were there had a feeling that it was the biggest weekend ever. Thursday morning, WOW organizer Karen Leisinger presented a check for $30,287 to Cure Kids Cancer at Radiothon!
Winterfest began six years ago with a $5000 donation to the charity, in honor of the Leisinger’s great-niece Jordyn Olsen who was diagnosed with cancer in 2007. Radiation treatments from that cancer caused her to develop a second form of cancer which took her life March 20.
The Leisinger’s have pledged to continue Winterfest of Wheels and raising money to someday beat this awful disease.
Winterfest of Wheels is so successful thanks to all the volunteers who take nothing for their time and efforts and all the collectors who come to Sioux Falls in the winter to show their cars to help us raise money for sick kids in our region. This years event was buoyed by the appearance of Disney TV star Peyton List from ‘Jessie’. List not only signed autographs and posed for pictures for everyone who stood in long lines to meet her, but the 15-year old used her break between meet & greet sessions to go to Sanford Children’s Hospital to meet kids who were too sick to go to the Convention Center.
Winterfest of Wheels plans for 2015 are already well underway.
