Sub zero weather is embracing Sioux Falls and the region on Tuesday.

With wild chill temperatures expected to be 21 below to 27 below zero, the National Weather Service urges you to follow these safety tips.

Watch for signs of frostbite.  The include loss of feeling and white or pale appearance in extremities such as fingers, toes, ear lobes, and the tip of the nose.  Get medical help immediately if symptoms are detected.

Watch for signs of hypothermia.  These include memory loss, shivering, disorientation, slurred speech and drowsiness.  If symptoms are detected, get the victim to a warm location, remove wet clothing, warm the center of the body first and give warm, non-alcoholic beverages if the victim is conscious.  Get immediate medical help.

Maintain ventilation when using kerosene heaters to avoid build-up of toxic fumes.  Refuel kerosene heaters outside and keep them at least three feet from flammable objects.

And, most important, stay indoors as much as you can while we are in the grip of winter's fury!
