Organizers of a local petition drive continue to work toward the goal of Sioux Falls residents having a vote on the 25 Million dollar bond for the construction of a new City Administration Building.

The construction issue has volleyed between City Council and Mayor Mike Huether. City council had a tie vote last February on the issue and the Mayor cast the tie breaking vote in favor of construction.  City council reconsidered in July and overturned the previous decision.  A few days later, the Mayor vetoed that decision, which was followed by City Council missing enough votes to overturn the veto.

Due to what he says is an overwhelming response from city residents, organizer Bruce Danielson of the group Citizens4Integrity lauched the Stop the Funding campaign, which included a drive through petition signing event over the weekend at the 300 Building downtown.

We had a fantastic weekend gathering petition signatures during signing event in Downtown Sioux Falls in front of the 300 Building on North Main Avenue Saturday and Sunday. We had Sioux Falls voters show up to Drive Up, Sign the Petition and Drive away. And over 1,000 did.

Former City Councilor Kermit Staggers, activist Bruce Danielson and other volunteers continue to gather signatures and hope to have an idea of total signatures in the coming days.  They'll need to get 5,750 verified signatures to bring the issue to a vote.
