With the recent move to their latest location, they are now opening the doors for you to be a part of the audience for upcoming taping sessions, according to Jeff Zueger.  The new studios are located in the lower level of the Last Stop CD shop on East 10 Street and St. Paul in Sioux Falls.

The White Wall sessions started three years ago on social media, and quickly spread to a television and radio show.  The name came simply from the fact that the background wall on their first studio was, white.  Jeff Zueger, Steve Zastrow,  David Palmer and other volunteers started the project that grew into what it is today.

Steve Zastrow has been with The White Wall sessions from the beginning, where early 60 artists and bands have been featured.  He says many volunteers come together to showcase the musical talent local for one reason:

The one thing we have in common is a love of music and we all bring different things to the table.

As you sit in the audience, you’ll not only take in the performance, but you can see the behind the scenes taping of 6 cameras rolling and the crew at work.  No money is exchanged between the artists or the studios, as each benefits from the process.  Local businesses sponsor broadcasts to cover expenses.

With many genres to enjoy get ready for perfectly mixed audio in a studio with amazing acoustics followed by a conversation Zatrow has with the band, discussing origins of songs, instruments used and more about the writing and performing process.  Season four begins this September.

If you go:

  • Get there a few minutes early to get settled in before the music and taping starts.
  • You’ll need to be quiet during the taping, but there’s time in between songs to stretch if you need to.
  • Admission is usually $5.00, and occasionally $8.00 for noteworthy artists.
  • Room for up to 50 audience members can be accommodated.
  • Various genres of music styles are performed, from folks and roots, to rock, jazz and more. Check out the upcoming schedule for artists, bands and session recording times.

Here are a few samples of artists featured on The White Wall Sessions:

Charlie Parr and Over the Red Cedar

Watching the array of White Wall Session YouTube videos, you may recognize someone you know, like the second guitarist on this video Kurt Rodman, an old boyfriend of mine from back in the 80's!  He's still very talented, as well as front man Charlie Roth in the song 5 More Minutes.

The Union Grover Pickers just performed at Jazzfest.  Here's Movin' Blues

Whether you sit in on the White Wall Sessions live in the audience or catch a recording of the show on TV or Radio, it is a privilege to have a platform featuring such talent right here in Sioux Falls.
