It's another busy weekend in the Sioux Empire. Here are some highlights.

September 28 (Friday)…HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL…Sioux Falls Roosevelt Rough Riders vs Yankton at Howard Wood Field at 7pm.

September 29 (Saturday)…Augie is on the road Saturday, but you can hear the action on KIKN 100.5.

September 28, 29 (Fri, Sat)…FESTIVAL OF BOOKS…In downtown Sioux Falls and several other locations around Sioux Falls.  Meet authors, participate in workshops, enjoy film screenings, luncheons, tea parties and a symphonic performance.

September 29 (Saturday)…NORTHER BULL RIDING TOUR FINALS…7pm at the Sioux Falls Arena.  The event features Make-A-Wish children as the special guests of the NBRT.  (tickets available through Ticketmaster)

September 29 (Saturday)…RUMMAGE SALE FOR CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK…8am-1pm at Service First Federal Credit Union, the Main Branch, next to Denny’s on East 10th Street.  If you’d like to donate items, you can drop them off at any Service First Branch.

September  29, 30 (Sat-Sun)…NORTHERN PLAINS INDIAN ART MARKET…At the Ramkota Exhibit Hall.  10am-6pm Saturday and 10am-4pm Sunday.  Enjoy paintings, sculptures, pottery, beadwork, fabric items and more created by the indigenous people of the Northern Plains.

September 29, 30 October 1…(Sat, Sun, Mon)…FALL PARADE OF HOMES…1-5pm Saturday and Sunday and 5:30-8:30pm Monday.  Over 65 new homes built by many different builders.  See what’s new in construction and design.  The event is free excluding the $6 donation to tour the 2 featured homes.  Proceeds will benefit the Sioux Empire Home Builders Care Foundation.

September 29-November 23…LEAF DROP OFF SITES OPEN…9am-5pm Monday through Saturday and Noon-5pm on Sundays.  There are 2 leaf and branch drop off sites; on the East side on East Chambers Street by the Household Hazardous Waste Facility and on the West side on North Lyon Blvd west of the Fairgrounds.  ($2/car, pickup, full-size SUV, van or 2-wheel trailers. September 30 (Sunday)…SUSAN G. KOMEN RACE FOR THE CURE… At Falls Park in Downtown Sioux Falls.  Registration starts at 7am and the race starts at 9am.  Raise awareness and funds to help in the fight to end breast cancer forever!

September 30 (Sunday)…PURPLE LIGHT NATIONAL VIGIL FOR HOPE…7:30pm at Terrace Park at the Covell Lake West Shelter, 700 North Lake Ave.  An event to honor those who have battled pancreatic cancer.  Come and create awareness and hope in our community.  Pancreatic cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. (www.purplelight.org)

October 1 (Monday)…SOUTH DAKOTA COALITION ENDING DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE, NATIONAL UNITY DAY…A candlelight vigil will be held at 6pm at the Main Library, 200 North Dakota.  Advocates and survivors will share their expertise and inspiration.  US Attorney Brendan Johnson will also speak at the event.  Stand together to end violence.  (605-945-0869)
