Quick! What is the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the word "Christmas?"

If you live here in Sioux Falls, it could very well be traffic congestion up and down 41st street, and all those idiot drivers in town to shop at the Empire Mall.

Or maybe it's Christmas at the Cathedral, or the Winter Wonderland at Falls Park with all those beautiful Christmas lights that light up the night throughout the holiday season?

When asked that question, the majority of people said it's Christmas songs and carols according to a new survey.

33% of people responded that way. Another 22% said Santa and presents. 21% claim it's parties and gatherings and only 17% said they thought of Jesus.

But wait, it gets worse.

When people were asked the question "What is the true meaning of Christmas?" 50% said it's a holiday to spend meaningful time with family and friends. Another 24% said it's a time to help out those in need. 18% said it's a worldwide celebration and sadly enough only 8% said it's a day set aside to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Fewer and fewer people appear to be going to church on Christmas day too.

Typically you would think Christmas and Easter would be the two holidays each year that you would find most churches packed to the rafters, right? Evidently that is not the case any longer if the findings of this survey are correct.

Only 22% of people claim they still regularly attend church on Christmas Day.
