Wes Anderson’s ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’ Adds Cast
Wes Anderson is no slouch when it comes to building impressive ensembles, as proven in films like ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’, ‘The Life Aquatic’ and his latest, the sublime ‘Moonrise Kingdom’. Obviously not ready to limit the names in his stock company, Anderson’s next film, ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’, is assembling perhaps the director’s most wonderful cast yet.
We already know that among the talents in ‘Grand Budapest’ are Jude Law, Bill Murray, Ralph Fiennes, Jeff Goldblum, Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, Adrien Brody, Saoirse Ronan and, of course, Jason Swartzman (whew!), but today another handful of names has emerged. Check them out after the break!
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter (a very entertaining read, by the way), Anderson confirms all of the names above and adds a few more: Tilda Swinton and Harvey Keitel, both of whom starred in ‘Moonrise Kingdom’, Mathieu Almaric (‘Quantum of Solace’) and F. Murray Abraham (‘Amadeus’). As we’ve been eagerly awaiting the comeback of F. Murray Abraham, he’s a particularly fun addition.
So that’s two more Oscar winners and an Oscar nominee; safe to say that Anderson has ascended to a point where almost every actor in Hollywood wants to work with him. That’s a fairly exclusive list of directors, one that includes the likes of Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese and only a few others.
Production on ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’ will begin in Europe in early 2013. Not much is known about the plot, other than it takes place in the late 1920s and has been inspired by classic Ernst Lubitsch comedies such as ‘The Shop Around the Corner’ and ‘To Be or Not to Be’.
