Weed Out Three Gardening Problems With These Solutions

Gardening is an enjoyable pastime. Except when it isn't. Three challenges to gardeners can be what to plant in the boulevard, how to deal with deer, and creating privacy. Here are some ideas if you have any or all of these problems.

Boulevards and tiny front yards can make gardeners wilt with frustration. The soil in boulevards is often dry and salty from winter road maintenance. And a tiny, postage stamp sized front lawn may seem like too much trouble to maintain. The following tough perennials may be the answer to each of these problem areas.

Yarrow, blazing star, day lilies, and bee balm will thrive in full sun. An additional advantage is that they also attract butterflies. Peonies and Asiatic lilies will work, too. As a bonus, their blooms are perfect for floral arrangements. A front yard that is shaded could showcase several hostas. The many variations of leaf color and texture will delight not only you, but those who pass by.

If you share your landscape with deer, try planting peonies, cone flowers, and Russian sage.  Deer tend to walk away rather than munch. Nannyberry, forsythia, and lilacs are also deer resistant.

Many yards are shared with neighbors. If you're looking to add a little privacy, grow up! Vines work very well when grown on a simple piece of lattice. Some fast growing vines are morning glory, sweet potato vine, and black-eyed Susan vine. All are annuals and can be grown in large containers on a balcony.

I was once told that problems are opportunities for growth. And in the above situations they truly are!
