Kyle Wiser of the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says several tornadoes touched down in South Dakota Thursday night.

"We had a couple of storms develop in eastern South Dakota. One of them (a particularly intense storm)  that developed southeast of Huron---moved over to Howard and just north of Madison.  That was the one that did produce a couple of tornadoes. There was a little bit of damage along the path. The most significant that we have heard of so far was around Alpena. There were some power lines down. The town was without power for a while. We're not sure some customers are still without power."

Wiser says crews will survey the areas on Friday.
