Warren Haynes puts his spin on a page from the Dr. John songbook in this exclusive premiere of "You Lie," a cut from the upcoming tribute album The Musical Mojo of Dr. John. You can check it out above.

Unlike some of the artists who participated in the recording, Haynes picked a more recent track — "You Lie" appeared on Locked Down, released in 2012. Although it hasn't been around long enough to be considered a classic, Haynes has argued that it stands shoulder-to-shoulder with just about anything from Dr. John's catalog. "For an artist of that caliber to still be putting out timeless music," he told the New Orleans Times-Picayune, "is pretty incredible."

Speaking to the paper during the days leading up to the tribute show, which was recorded in 2014, Haynes called the evening's guest of honor "a huge, unique part of American musical history" and shared his hopes of a lasting impact for the performances. "Hopefully this tribute will raise the awareness factor on that for people that are less in tune to this kind of music," he added. "More music came from or through New Orleans than anywhere else. Honoring Mac is, in an extended way, also honoring the fact that New Orleans is our richest musical city. Nobody deserves it more. He's the honorary musical mayor, where it all kind of just merges together and defies categorization."

The Musical Mojo of Dr. John arrives in stores Oct. 14 and is available to pre-order now. Check out Haynes' version of "You Lie" above and take a look at the complete track listing — featuring appearances from a long list of acts including Bruce Springsteen and John Fogerty — along with Fogerty's rendition of "New Orleans."
