The lyrics of the song may take you back to 1983, but the way things are going these days the song should have been written in 1984 with a nod to George Orwell.

Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you

Initially, Sting and Andy Summers wrote “Every Breath You Take” as a tome to describe a love lost and continued obsession despite the split as members of the British rock band The Police.

Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
I'll be watching you

Now that we find out that the United States government is accumulating phone records from customers of the cell phone company Verizon since April of this year.

Oh can't you see
You belong to me
How my poor heart aches with every step you take

Some members of Congress defend of this act taken by the government.  According to one source a Republican has deemed the action taken as a success with one terrorist plot foiled.

Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I'll be watching you

If safety and security is what you want, the feds will try to provide it.  There will be no privacy of course.  Also we know it isn’t foolproof as the Boston Marathon bombing showed us.  We have a government that is in all of our business now whether you like it or not.  They know whom we have called and how much money we make, with options to find out how much we drive, how much utilities we use and our cholesterol level just as a start.  All of this information is now ready for consumption by agents of the government.  Freedom is lost unless we are still the “Home of the Brave.”  Then we must suppress the attempts of government to control our existence.

Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I'll be watching you
