It was early Spring of 2013 when all of Sioux Falls was on the lookout for falling branches and hoping that the batteries in our flashlights were still good. The Ice Storm of 2013 A.K.A Icepocalypse hit Sioux Falls on April 9, 2013.

Freezing rain covered everything in ice, brought down trees and knocked out power. The sound of cracking and falling branches is etched in my memory. Then, of course, it snowed several inches a few days later.

We were without power at our house for two nights. It was nowhere near as fun as that episode of Friends led me to believe that being in a blackout would be.

Then after the storm came Sioux Falls' response: OPERATION TIMBER STRIKE! (Dun, dun, dunnnnnnnnnnn). I have to say that the City of Sioux Falls did a bang-up job getting the city cleaned up after the storm littered our yards and streets with broken tree branches.

Thanks to YouTube videos we can take a look back on the storm in all it's freezing glory.
