Two Sioux Falls oral surgeons performed a root canal earlier this week on a very uncommon patient. The patient was a 300-pound Amur Tiger named Keesa.

Thank goodness for the docs, Keesa requested the gas and was heavily sedated.

Dr. Denis Miller and Dr. Louis George together with the zoo’s veterinarian, Dr. Anne Burgdorf repaired one of the teeth on the 6-year old tiger Tuesday morning March 29, at the Great Plains Zoo's Veterinary Hospital.

This wasn't the first fanged, furry, four legged patient the two doctors have had. They previously worked with zoo staff to perform dental procedures on an Amur Tiger in June 2014, a Red Wolf in December 2014, and a Snow Leopard in December 2015.

Keesa is still recovering from the procedure, but feeling much better. Doctors say she should be good as new and back in action out at the zoo in a couple of days.

Do you suppose they also gave her the usual lecture about not flossing often enough once she woke up?
