UPDATE: Names Released in Mitchell Fatal Accident
The names have been released in the two vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon on Highway 37 four miles south of Mitchell.
23-year old Sara Ann Clagett of Tripp, SD was southbound on highway 37 when she drifted into the northbound lane hitting a pickup driven by 82-year old Donald Julius Geidel of Dimock, SD. Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt and were both killed in the accident.
Clagett’s two-year old daughter Lauryn was in a child safety seat in the backseat and was pulled from the burning vehicle by witnesses. Lauryn sustained life-threatening injuries.
Brandon Sandoz, a 19-year-old MTI student from Valentine, Neb., said he and his friend, Corey Ramold, 18, of O’Neill, Neb., and Sandoz’s girlfriend, Abby Albin, 20, of Emery, were on their way to Nebraska when they saw the accident. Sandoz was able to get the little girl out of the burning vehicle and helped Ramold and area farmers get chains on the vehicles and separate them with gas leaking on the road and one of the vehicles engulfed in flames. All three are heroes in our eyes.
