Teaching is arguably one of the most important days in the world yet many educators are underpaid and overwhelmed.  Unfortunately, award winning teacher Dara Feldman says many teachers have lost their passion for the profession.

According to Feldman, "shockingly, 50% of new educators get burned out within the first five years and leave.  This not only harms students and teachers, it costs taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars for each new teacher we lose."

Feldman says the current focus of mandated testing has had a tragic effect on teachers and students.  "The relentless emphasis on testing makes students feel hopeless and reduced to a statistic.  This leads to boredom, skipping class and increasing numbers of students who are dropping out."

The bottom line, according to Dara Feldman, is to appreciate our teachers and let them know they are truly making a difference in the lives of young people.  "We need to encourage the men and women who are in the teaching profession and find a way to keep to let them know we really do care about them."
