‘Transformers 4′ and ‘Teenange Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Updates From Michael Bay
Michael Bay‘s ‘Pain and Gain‘ arrived in theaters this weekend, so naturally, everyone is asking him about ‘Transformers 4‘ and ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.’ Although both films don’t arrive until 2014, Bay offered additional information about them that will possibly ease the jittery nerves of fanboys all over the world.
Speaking with Moviefone, Bay went on the defensive on the subject of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ (a film he’s producing, not directing), assuring fans that the new film will faithful to the source material and shot down the long-persisting rumors that they would be changing the title characters into aliens. After all, if they were aliens, why would the word “mutant” even be in the title? Here’s the exact quote:
“There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We’re not. It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great.”
Bay had far more to say about ‘Transformers 4′ (he is directing it after all), discussing the reaction to the first three films and why he decided to make the fourth film after claiming he was done with the third film. Bay seems fiercely loyal to the ‘Transformers’ brand (and surely to the massive paycheck that comes with helming such a successful series), but he admits that he’s changing up a lot of things in ‘Transformers 4′ to keep things interesting for himself:
“You know there are a couple of historians of Transformers. I would do my designs of the robots and they’re like, ‘What if you just add a little bit more ears to Optimus?’ But they’re really hands off. We’ve redesigned them in ‘Transformers 4,’ and there’s some really cool s-t in it. I’m literally redesigning every character, top to bottom. There’s a reason why they’re redesigned, but it’s also to keep it new and fresh to me. I think the fans will appreciate some of this new stuff we have in the movie and some of the new characters.”
‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ is set to open on June 6th, 2014 and ‘Transformers 4′ will arrive on June 27th, 2014.
