Kansas City's Trampled Under Foot announced this spring that they were going to go their separate ways at the end of the year so brother and sister Nick and Danielle Schnebelen can continue their musical careers with their own bands. Fans like me everywhere took the news hard because in the 11-years that TUF has been together, they are at their absolute peak right now.

When TUF played Sioux Falls JazzFest in July 2013, their latest release "Badlands" hit #1 on the Blues Charts the day they came to town. Fast forward 13 months and their drummer/brother Kris left the band to pursue other options, replaced by a dear friend of the band (and really good drummer!) Jan Faircloth who celebrated his birthday at the show Thursday night in Sioux City. Danielle led the sold out crowd in singing "Happy Birthday" to Jan and I told the friends I was with that if they could get Danielle to call me and sing happy birthday to me like that next year, I'd never ask for another present!

Also new to the band is keyboardist "Shinetop Jr." which has added a whole new, fun dimension to the sound of the band. I was asked many times during the night why they are splitting at the end of the year and that's a question I can't answer. But as long as I can continue to hear Nick play guitar and sing and Danielle thump her bass and sing, I guess that will have to do.

The energy the band showed was even better than the other two times I've been fortunate to see them perform. They have put new twists on their stellar recorded works, they played a song that Danielle wrote right after 'Badlands' had been released, so it's not on an album anywhere. Danielle decided to 'pull rank' since she and Shinetop were making out the set list Thursday afternoon with Nick and Jan likely enjoying everything the new Hard Rock Casino has to offer and surprised the crowd with a great version of the Beatles "Oh! Darling".

Besides great musicianship and one of my absolute favorite voices in the blues from Danielle, you could always count on a Led Zeppelin encore from the classic rock and blues-influenced TUF and now with the fantastic keyboards added to the band, they can finally perform the band's namesake song: Trampled Under Foot which had the sold out crowd on their feet and begging for more, while people quickly lined up at the merchandise booth to buy a memento and meet the incredible band.

Remember, you have another chance to catch Trampled Under Foot at the Sioux Falls Orpheum Theatre November 21, 2014 when they play the Jazz & Blues Society fall & winter concert series. Individual show tickets go on sale in September.

And the Thursday night Blues Series at the Hard Rock will continue August 28th with Rick Estrin and the Night Cats, plus John Nemeth, Indigneous, Coco Montoya and more in September! Choose 'table seating' when ordering your tickets for the Blues Series shows and use the code word 'Crash' to get your seats for just $5 each. And with shows like TUF selling out, you'd better get your tickets in advance!
