Touch ‘Em All? Minor Leaguer Forgets to Step on Home Plate, Loses Home Run, Game

For years, baseball announcers have been punctuating their home runs calls with three simple words: 'Touch 'Em All'. That exclamation actually has a lot of truth behind it, because it actually doesn't count as a home run unless you touch all of the bases AND home plate.

Minor leaguer Elier Leyva apparently didn't get the memo.

Playing Sunday for the Delmarva Shorebirds, the Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, Leyva delivered a two-run, go ahead, dinger in the top of the ninth inning against the Augusta Green Jackets. There's just one problem, as you can see in the video above. Leyva forgot to touch home plate during the ensuing celebration.

The Green Jackets didn't miss it. They appealed the play, and Leyva was ruled out. He was credited with an RBI triple after his gaffe, which tied the game.

Karma later dealt Leyva a cruel blow when Augusta walked-off on Delmarva with a game winning single in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Baseball can be pretty heartless sometimes.
