Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers are prepping multiple rarities and deep cuts for their two upcoming New York City and L.A. residencies next month. During the band's upcoming spring jaunt, they'll play five nights at Manhattan's Beacon Theatre along with six shows at L.A.'s Fonda Theatre. Tom Petty explained that the two residencies will force the Heartbreakers to spend some extra time in the rehearsal room, telling Rolling Stone, "I'm gonna have to do a lot more rehearsals than the six days we usually do. . . I don't want to do a 'Greatest Hits' night. We need to learn a lot of songs, some covers, (and) some of our old stuff. When you're together as long as we have been, there's a lot to keep up with. There's always something you've missed unless you've been there since the '70s. We can present these songs in a way that will feel fresh to people who know them and be a lot of fun if you've never heard them."
